About Covid and community care

This is the archived text of the COVID policy and community agreements from the conference.

Coming to a conference where we are examining the criminalization of health care, and in a political moment in which our health care is being further criminalized, we invite participants to be mindful of the connections with the past and to think of this as a moment in which we can prioritize caring for ourselves and each other in the midst of organized abandonment. This conference is organized by and centers disabled community members and others impacted by Covid-19. Our bodily autonomy values necessitate us approaching the pandemic with collective action to care and harm reduction.

We know that, in a society in which we have each been largely left to make our own individual decisions about how to navigate this pandemic and at a time when many of us are rarely, if ever, required to wear masks or test frequently, our Covid policy may seem unusual or provoke questions from some attendees. Nonetheless, Covid remains rampant. We aim to make ComstockCon accessible to anyone working at the intersection of reproductive justice, bodily autonomy, and free speech issues and—to the maximum extent possible—to ensure that no one leaves the conference having contracted Covid or another illness and suffering the resulting health and economic consequences.

Our Covid community agreements

All registered attendees, speakers, and the conference organizing team have affirmed the following:

  • I agree to wear an N95, KN95 or respirator mask for the entirety of the conference.

  • I agree to take a rapid test one hour or less before arriving at the conference.

  • I agree to stay home if I am experiencing symptoms or am sick.

  • I understand that coffee breaks, lunch, and our closing reception will be held outside.

  • If I experience any possible Covid symptoms during the conference, I will isolate and test.

If you are traveling to attend, we encourage you to test before traveling in case you have an asymptomatic case. Please mask when in public spaces you travel through to the extent possible.

If there is inclement weather and we are unable to hold meals and breaks outside, we have a contingency plan for indoor food service, in a combination of spaces with windows and doors that can open to the outside air and spaces where we can limit occupancy to enable social distancing.

Before entering the conference

  • Please take a Covid-19 rapid test one hour or less before arriving, and take a photo of the result.

    • If you test positive, we ask that you please attend the conference virtually instead.

  • Please arrive masked and check in at the welcome desk, where a member of the conference team will review the photo to verify your negative Covid-19 test.

Even and especially if you’re not someone who typically opts to wear a mask, we thank you for respecting our policy and helping us to enact a compassionate and collective approach to holding a large-scale gathering during an ongoing health crisis.
